100% certified organic cotton fleece www.organicbynature.ca
These are our very own organic cloth diapers hand-made in our workshop right here in Ontario. After several months of hard work – creating, designing, testing, re-designing and testing again we finally came up with a great diaper you going to love. Combining trim and snug fit with adjustability, Moonies are made entirely with silky soft and ultra-absorbent certified organic cotton fleece. Soft, wide elastic at the back and legs for snug fit. All front snaps on the inside are hidden between the layers of fabric so they won’t leave marks on your baby’s delicate skin. There is an inside in-built soaker between the layers which is attached to the front top and back top of the diaper, but not to the sides allowing fast drying. Organic cotton fleece is very dense and durable yet very light and fluffy, making it perfect for cloth diapers, which require frequent hot washing and tumble drying. Available in two sizes:
Size 1:
Babies: 8 – 20 lbs.
Waist: 14″ – 20″
Rise: 12″ – 15″
Size 2:

Organic By Nature shop offers unique fair trade toys for your baby, toddler or older child. Today, BAREFOOT is a premier textile design company exporting worldwide. High quality workmanship and handwork are not cheap substitutes for machinery, which is why BAREFOOT products are relatively expensive and will last a lifetime. Each worker earns a real living wage, so they can support themselves and their families.

Thinking about switching to cloth diapers for your baby, but do not know where to start? Read on! Save money, spare your little one health and our planet – cloth diapering is FUN!
WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?
- 2-3 dozens of cloth diapers, more for younger babies, less for older ones. We recommend trying out a few different styles before purchasing a large quantity of one style. From personal experience I prefer contour diapers for a younger baby:
snugglier fit,
no snaps or velcro strips to irritate tender skin,
as your baby grows, very adjustable contour diaper “grows” with him,
less bulky, especially on smaller babies.
Snap-ins and fitteds with lots of snaps for different size adjustments are good too, because they can fit a much wider weight range, meaning you will need less of them.
- diaper covers: 6-8 covers for newborn/infants, 4-6 covers for larger sizes.
- gentle wool wash with lanoline for wool diaper covers.
- 10-20 inserts or doublers, depending on which type of diaper you use. Some diapers are so absorbent, that you won’t need any doublers unless for overnight use or if your munchkin is a very heavy wetter. Doublers and soakers with fleecy top lining are better for overnight use because of that stay-dry feeling. Otherwise many babies would wake up during the night because of the cold and wet feeling to their skin. The quantity depends on individual preferences. I have about 10 soakers, which I use on Max at night for extra protection.
- diaper pail. Any large square or round plastic container with a tight lid will do.
- diaper pail liner. A water- and odor-proof bag for wet and soiled diapers. Make sure it fits well over your diaper pail.
- diapering accessories such as: 2-3 wet bags for travelling, flashable liners & cloth wipes .
HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD I NEED TO INVEST IN CLOTH DIAPERING?
It all depends on the type of diapers you choose. The average investment would be between $400 to $1200-$1400 incl. two extra laundry loads per week. Comparing this to over $2,000 in disposables for a two-year period you will save quite a bit of money, especially if you plan to cloth diaper your subsequent children too!
HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO CHANGE MY BABY?
It is not recommended to leave your baby in wet diaper for over two hours due to encreased risk of infection, so do check her often. At least every 1.5 to 2 hours. Due to the nature of cloth diapers, many cloth diapered babies are potty trained a lot sooner then the ones in disposable diapers.
HOW DO I WASH MY DIAPERS?
Keep your wet and soiled diapers in the diaper pail and wash them every 3-4 days, depending on how many you have on hand. Cloth diapers should be washed on hot cycle with any detergent that does not contain bleach or fabric softner. Add a couple of drops of tea tree or eucalyptus oil to your detergent to boost the antibacterial properties.
DO I NEED TO WASH CLOTH DIAPERS PRIOR TO USE?
Yes, your cloths diapers need to be washed before use in order to reach their maximum absorption capacity. Wash in a full cycle, using hot water, and your non-bleach household detergent. Bleach is very harsh against your baby’s skin and may damage the diaper’s fibers and elastics, reducing its lifespan. Your cotton diapers and liners will arrive sort of stiff and flat, but will fluff up and soften wonderfully just after one wash!
HOW DO I GET THE STAINS OUT?
If your diapers got stained we recommend to hang wet diapers in the direct sun outside for a few hours to dry. You can also squirt it with a little lemon juice before the sunshine “treatment”. The stubborn stain should come right out after this.
CLOTH VS. DIPOSABLES
Apart from the obvious environmental reasons, there are great economical and health reasons to why switching to cloth diapers is better for you and your baby.
It’s a money saver. In two years from birth to potty training each baby needs an astonishing 6000 diaper changes. Choosing cloth can save you up to $2000! Even with extra laundry to do. The savings will be even bigger if a family chooses a more affordable cloth diapering option such as contour diapers or prefolds.
Disposable diapers are made with polyethylene and polypropylene plastic with bleached paper pulp, AGM (a gelling substance), petrolatum, stearyl alcohol, cellulose tissue, elastic, and perfume. Many of the chemicals used in the production of desposable diapers are direct health hazards. Some scientific studies have linked disposable diapers and their harsh perfumes and toxic substances to the increase of asthma in small children. Now think about that your baby could spend at least two years of his life in those diapers and you will see the picture.
Cloth diapers, on the other hand are what they are – cloth. Organic cloth diapers are even better, because the fabric or yarn they are made of have never been treated with chemicals. We applaud you for considering cloth for your little one! Once you’ve tried it – you will never want to use disposable diapers again.
Enjoy!

Just like lots of other people I used not to bother with the whole organic clothes thing. To be completely honest I did not even know there WAS such a thing as organic fabric. Food – yes, but clothes? Most of us think that cotton by definition means healthy, natural, wholesome. What I did not know is that there is a lot more to the picture then this. So for all of you who still wonder what on earth is organic cotton and why is it so much better for us and our planet, here is the scoop.
Over the last century humans have developed a very long list of chemicals to help us combat the pests that can destroy the crops. These chemicals are so strong that not only they kill the pests, but they can also kill animals and seriously harm people too. Moreover, it pollutes our air, water and soil. Conventional cotton growing also makes thousands of acres too barren or contaminated for further farming. Now imagine this: one third of all chemicals in the world used in modern agriculture is applied to cotton plant. That’s a whole lot of chemicals that go and stay (!) in the clothes we wear, air we breath, water we drink.
Organic cotton growers, on the other hand, use natural pest control (simply said, good bugs eating bad bugs). They depend on healthy, living soil to produce strong plants resistant to pests and disease. Only natural methods such as manure and composting used to maintain seeds and soil fertility. To prevent weeds, trap water or lure pests and bring beneficial insects to the fields – special plants are seeded between rows. Organic cotton farming requeres less water for irrigation. Lots of weeding is done by hand. But it does not stop here. The fabric manufacturing itself has to be eco friendly too. Organic cotton is naturally more breathable, softer and thicker than conventional cotton and stays like that even after many washes. Only the lowest impact chemical dyes or vegetable dyes are used for organic fabric dye process. As a result of all this hard work, we can enjoy super soft yet durable cotton that does not harm us or our planet!
So be good to yourself and the Earth, consider organically grown cotton for your clothes.
Interesting facts:
It takes about 1/3 of a pound of pesticides and herbicides to grow enough conventional cotton for just one T-shirt! Many of which are known human cancirogens – acephate, dichloropropene, diuron, fluometuron, pendimethalin, tribufos, and trifluralin. By choosing organically grown cotton we protect ourselves, our planet and our children’s future from all these chemicals.

Each day when you are using your regular skin care products, you may be applying toxins to your skin without even realizing it. There are hundreds of toxic chemicals used in cosmetic products these days, some of which potentially contribute to rashes, allergies, headaches, asthma, hormonal imbalances, cancer and reproductive complications, not to mention the environmental impact.
Here are some cool little tricks I have learned over the years that will do just as good job as any leading commercial product on your complexion, hair and body but without adding the toxic cocktail or compromising your style or budget. Enjoy!
In the morning, slap a spoonful of plain organic yogurt on your face. Higher fat % for dry or normal skin and fat-free for oily. Excellent moisturizer and you can have the rest for breakfast;0)
Instead of your usual hairspray or gel try to apply plain aloe vera gel to style your hair. Add a little melted sugar for extra hold. Works just great!
Ummm…strawberries! Mash one or two extra-ripe berries in a cup, dip a cotton ball in the juice and wipe your face and neck area. Leave for 5-10 minutes, wash off with cold water. Your face will instantly look fresh and glowing, like after 8 hrs good night sleep. This one is my personal favorite, – being a mom to a teething toddler, 8 hours of sleep is unimaginable luxury I can only dream of, so this trick really does the job of looking good in the morning!
Good old cucumber will take the puffiness out of your eyes in no time. Cover your eyes with fresh, cold (must be cold!), thin slices and leave them on for a couple of minutes. Re-apply a fresh batch if needed. Camomile tea bags and ice cubes will do the trick too!
Lemon juice will get the skin discoloration caused by sun damage out, but you have to be persistant! Keep your skin well moisturized to avoid dry patches and remember to use good sunblock in between the applications (actually, you should use one All the time!).
“For extra fun, let your boyfriend or spouse kiss your lemon-juiced face – the look on his face will be priceless!”
Useful tips:
Use as much organic products as possible – you don’t want to add pesticides to your skin, right?
